Anyone who sings on key, has something to say and can eek out a few chords without sending animals and small children running for cover.
Sounds Like
Myself, I hope, but most shows someone from the audience pays a well-intentioned compliment about how I remind them of one of their favorite artists. That list includes Lucy Kaplansky, Dar Williams, Joni Mitchell (I wish!), Jewel (sigh), Patty Griffin, and Bob Dylan (just kidding on this last one but since the press is always looking for the next Bob Dylan I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring too).
Erin O’Brien performs story-driven roots-folk music. Her finely crafted songs, warm stage presence and dynamic voice have earned her numerous accolades and awards, including recognition as the Madison Songwriters Group’s 2004 Performing Songwriter of the Year and first place in The Coffeehouse’s 20th Annual Mid-Winter Talent Contest (Milwaukee, WI 2006).
By day, O’Brien plays Mighty Mouse trying to track and respond to the nearly constant stream of activities that threaten to degrade or destroy Wisconsin’s wetlands. In 2006, O’Brien received a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board to write a series of original songs inspired by Wisconsin’s rivers, lakes and wetlands, and the people who work to protect them. If the nere-do-wells behave, she aims to record these "Rhythms of Our Rivers Project" songs in 2008.
Speaking of recordings. The songs "Georgia Nights" and "No" posted above are both off of Erin’s debut EP "Georgia Nights."
