Christopher was born in Alexandria, Virginia, and was surrounded by Jazz influences from his grandparents. His grandparents were Flappers in Philadelphia and frequented the 'Speakeasys' during Prohibition. In their homes they constantly played Ellington, Dizzy and Ella in his presence. His grandmother would play piano with him every Sunday after church and took him to Big Band concerts at nearby Fort Ward Park. " I remember hearing those horn sections blasting out harmonies that fascinated and perplexed me". At age 10, "My first instrument was alto sax, but there was no teacher to guide me, my first school recital was a disaster. I gave it up quickly". His first guitar was a nylon string that was brought from a thrift store, by his mother. It was impossible to pry out of his hands. He quickly formed a rock band with school friends and began his love affair with music.
In the early 90's Christopher began accompanying musicians from Brazil performing Bossa Nova and Samba at parties throughout San Diego. " The first time I met them we played for days". It led him to travel to Brazil and then Cuba. " I was interested in finding the origins and drinking from their wells". Christopher enrolled in the Institute for Superior Arte in Havana, and found himself playing with the countries best young players. "It was the most profound musical and personal moment in my life".
On his first album, Christopher is releasing music written from a time spent abroad, in Morelia, Mexico.
"I was studying at the Conservatory of the Rosas with Argentinian Guitar Virtuoso, Victor Pellegrini, and being homesick, began composing. Music was flowing through my hands and in my mind as I found elements of Blues, Bossa Nova, Rock and Son traveling through me".
Christopher is creating his first self produced, and released CD, on his own label, Zambumbia Records, entitled "Going Places". His single, "Bagdad Blues", written in memory of fallen classmate, Navy Seal LCDR Erik Kristensen, was awarded in August, 2010 an Honorable Mention by Billboard for its annual World Song Competition.
